So, this is happening this Saturday night, September 29 from 7pm-1am at the Artworks ANNEX at Theater Row in Hollywood, CA. I'm performing at the ''Mashup Or Shutup Show'' with a team of talented improvisors such as Cozi Orlen, Jake Regal, Leann Bowen, Pete Szilagyi and more! We go up at 7:30pm. And, it's free.
Sept. 15, 2002 at the Closing Awards Ceremony of the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival, my first film won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film in the Asian American category! We couldn't believe it. Between the four of us, I didn't believe it -- well considering that presenter Dana Lee announced us as, "Soap Dish." Everyone including the late actor, Mako congratulated us. Pretty cool. Such a surreal night it was! Interviews, press and local paparazzi as well as the kind audience that voted for us and said positive comments of our film. I was so sure the folks of "Charlotte Sometimes" was going to take this. Totally blown away from the attention I was not prepared for. The next day, press all over the internet. What a weird feeling it was. This was one of those nights I could not forget.
This was our award statue (that needed to be engraved later). Sept. 14, 2002 marks the 10th Anniversary of the World Premiere Screening of SOAP GIRL at the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival. To relieve our excitement, we enjoyed a boat ride around the lake of Big Bear high above Los Angeles. Later, the rest of the cast & crew of SOAP GIRL arrived to attend the World Premiere. It was a good turnout as ballots were handed out afterwards. I don't remember what happened after the screening... All I remember was the next day, Day 3, the Closing Ceremony where the awards were to be given out. To be continued tomorrow, Sept. 15.
Ten years ago today (September 13, 2002), my first independent feature film that I executive produced ans also appeared in, SOAP GIRL, was an Official Selection for the 2002 Big Bear Lake International Film Festival that took place from September 13-15. I drove up along with the director, the screenwriter and the other executive producer on our first day and Opening Night of the festival. We met filmmaker Brad Silberling and the Festival's president, Monica Skerbellis. Silberling's film, "Moonlight Mile" was the event's Opening Night feature film. Producer Janet Yang, director Greg Pak, actors Mako, Dana Lee, JoBeth Williams and the folks from the film, "Charlotte Sometimes," too. The latter was our competition in the category of Best Feature Film in the Asian American category.
The documentary film about Oscar nominated animator, Bill Plympton, ADVENTURES IN PLYMPTOONS! directed by Alexia Anastasio is coming out on DVD next Tuesday, September 18 from Cinema Libre Studio. Preorders are available now.
